Day 160, Friday, November 11
When I hit the deer back on October 3, one of the things that got broken was a custom windshield that I’d ordered from a company called CEE Baileys. Unfortunately, when SanFran BMW repaired the motorcycle, they were unable to get a replacement windshield in time. Instead they gave me a loaner windshield and said they’ve ship the correct replacement to my brother’s house in SanDiego. As it turns out, Cee Bailey’s ships their windshields out of a warehouse in Los Angeles and I’ve arranged to pick up the windshield first hand rather than having it shipped. I left the campground on a very relaxed schedule this morning. From the campground, I headed over to the warehouse figuring that LA traffic, known to be bad at most times, might not be so awful outside of rush hour. What a mistake. I can’t imagine why anybody would want to live in this snarled up, foul smelling mess of a city. I left Ventura just after noon and it took me nearly 3 ½ hours to get to the factory.
After leaving the factory, I headed back just North of LA to the house of one of Peter DiDonato’s friends, Debbie Weiss, where I’ve been invited to stay for the weekend.
Debbie used to work as an x-ray and ultrasound tech but quit that job to pursue a career in clothing and apparel design (see her line at www.myrebe.com). Design of anything affected by fashion in LA has got to be an incredibly cut throat market. Definitely not a market I’d want to be in. She’s got three daughters which she’s raised by herself. Two are going to art colleges and the youngest is at home. That’s a hell of an undertaking as a single mother!
