Day 45, Saturday, July 30

After yesterday’s hike, I wasn’t in much of a mood, or rather my knees weren’t in much of a mood for a long hike today. Instead, I toured around the park on the motorcycle. I made it up to Glacier point for some great shots of Half Dome, then took a short hike (only 2 miles) to Sentinel Dome. After that I caught Bridal Veil Falls, took pictures of El Capitan, and called it a day.
When I got back to the campsite, Peter was there talking with a ranger and I noticed that there seemed to be an awful lot of traffic on the Rangers 2-way radio. Turns out some 25 year old guy had leaned too far over the railing at Vernal Falls, had fallen into the river, and plunged to his death. Not exactly an ideal summer trip. The ranger said that somebody dies at Vernal or Nevada Falls just about every year.
Shared dinner tonight with Peter and the French family. Shrimp penne with an assortment of olives, cheeses, fruits and a red wine. Not bad for camping! Packing tomorrow it going to be a heck of a job. Camp 4 rules say you’ve gotta be out by 10am and I’ve got a LOT of packing to do.
